Is Plush Carpet Good? How Do I Know?
Yes, plush carpet is certainly good if it’s being installed in a low-traffic area. I mean you know right how rough high-traffic areas can be!š©
Iāve seen here and there that plush carpets are replaced only 10 years or so. Many also claim that within 5-10 years these carpets start showing signs of rips, tears, and stains.
But I feel like I need a more detailed explanation, donāt you?
After all Comfortable carpets with popular styles turn out to be an excellent choice among natural fiber carpets such as wool carpets.
Pile height
What do you think to be the first reason for this type of carpet being so great? Can you guess?
Let me do the honor š-
The first reason would be the pile height of these carpet styles. These carpets have a quite long pile height of 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) to 1 inch (25.4 mm).
āAfter all, the longer the pile is evidently the softer the rug would feel to you. But, of course, the quality of the material used in making it also plays a big role.ā
I think of it most when it’s about Berber carpet.
That is the very feature of synthetic materials which makes it a great reason for your kids to play around safe and comfy, wonāt you agree?
Pile Density
Next up is the pile density. You see, most residential plush carpets have the usual face aka pile weights of between 35 and 60 ounces and pile height of 0.75 inches.
Based on the Average Pile Yarn Density (APYD) formula which results in –
60 x 36 / 0.75 = 2880
So, surely theyāll have a density of 2,880 ounces per cubic yard. But did you know –
āThis value can range up to 7000 ounces per cupid yard. In fact, most consumers tend to choose 2500 to 2900+ ounces turns for better durability factors.ā
Durability Against Price
The third factor that makes plush carpet good for you is its durability against price. Based on which material you may be considering for your carpet the price will differ proportionally.
Take a look at the table which will give you a brief idea about what Iām trying to explain.
SL | Material | Durability (Approx.) | Price per square foot |
1. | Nylon | 10-20 years | $0.75 ā $9.00 |
2. | Triexta | 10-15 years | $1.50 ā $7.00 |
3. | Polyester | 5-10 years | $0.50 ā $6.00 |
4. | Wool | 10-25 years | $3.00 ā $21.00 |
But as you can see on my comparison table the durability can vary based on material and so the price too.
āI hope this helps you make a better-informed decision for yourselfāŗļø Surely you are able to tell quite a bit if the plush carpet is good for you or not!!ā
What Has Considered A Good Plush Carpet?
The pile height, pile density, durability against price, etc is one thing. But thereās more to it when defining a good plush carpet I suppose.
These also work as the key factors that are considered for a good plush carpet.
Thatās why Iām gonna explain these to you as well. This should help you enough to make a WELL-INFORMED DECISION for yourself.
Twist Level-
It is said that carpets with a higher twist level such as 5 twists per inch are more resilient.
If you are about to ask, does plush carpet show footprints? Be aware that twist levels are less likely to show footprints.
Stain and Soil Resistance-
Many brand offers built-in stain resistance and soil resistance treatments. They even claim a guarantee for these features.
Surely these soft texture carpets can be quite a pain for regular maintenance. You should definitely look for it before buying nylon carpets or wool carpets!!
Color and Pattern-
Plush carpets are available in the market with a really wide range of colors and resign as well. I personally prefer darker colors and multi-tonal designs. Because they are better at hiding footprints and dirt.
āI’ve learned from carpet experts that velvet pile carpets used to be the favorite choice for regular carpets back in 19’s.ā
They preferred cozy carpets so much that their master bedroom, primary bedrooms, or any other moderate foot traffic area used to be covered with velvety surfaces for sure.
However, plush pile carpeting with lighter colors isn’t very wasnāt very popular option even for them.
Is Plush Carpets A Good Choice For High-Traffic Areas?
Nope, plush carpets are not a good choice for high-traffic areas. And not just me but carpet manufacturers and consumers claim the same thoughts about plush too.
So, are plush carpet wear well? If it is a choice for the family rooms in high traffic, sorry but nope. Not at all.
Homes with pets are especially unsuitable. While actively playing around low-pile carpets can hold good but plush texture cut-pile carpets or loop-pile carpets simply canātā¦
Besides pet owners report that these can pose respiratory issues for your furry friend.
Is Plush Carpet Good For Stairs
No, plush carpet isnāt good for stairs either.
Why? Obviously because of plush carpet’s nature of softness to the touch and all.
Besides donāt stairs count as being the most high-traffic area in your house?
āOn stairs, I would suggest a carpet of 1/2″ or less Pile Height, Padding Thickness of 7/16″ or less, and a Pile Density Rating of at least 8 pounds.ā ā and none of it supports the idea of using plush carpet for stairs.
Also, maintaining cleanliness with plush carpet on stairs is ā¦just say sort of a nightmare.
Is Plush Carpet Durable
Yes, plush carpet is durable if you care and maintain it well.
Depending on how thick is the plush carpet that you have, youāll need to practice cleaning it daily and vacuuming it frequently.
Also, practice being extra careful not to cause mess or spills in precise. Even if thereās an accidental spill or other sort of mess you should clean it immediately and deeply.
If you do so already, then you can rest assured. Your carpet is gonna last at least for 10-15 years to come. No questions asked
I think now you know if you should really consider plush to be good for you or not. But but butā¦. There can be scenarios even I donāt know about. If there is I would surely love to knowā¦. Share your thoughts too, will you?
Regardless of what you think of me and my content, I care. And as a fellow researcher about daily life like you, I think youād appreciate a visual explanation. If so, do watch this video too.
